What is PLA?

The “A Welcoming Language” Portuguese course offers certified language training aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), covering levels A1 and A2 (Elementary User) as well as B1 and B2 (Independent User), also C1 and C2 (Advanced User).

Tailored for young people and adults whose first language is not Portuguese, this program provides comprehensive language instruction while also fostering an understanding of Portuguese culture and traditions. The course aims to support social integration, promote civic participation, and strengthen employment opportunities.

Furthermore, successful completion of the course may fulfill language requirements for applications related to Portuguese nationality, permanent residency, or long-term resident status.

Course Curriculum

Program Structure

The PLA courses are designed according to the competency and training frameworks specified in the National Qualifications Catalogue (CNQ).

Duration: 150 hours (A1+ A2)

Mode of Study: Online or on-campus options available.

Mode: Around 8-12 weeks

Group session: Morning, Afternoon and Evening

Certification

Certification for PLA

We are pleased to inform our students that, upon successful completion of the course, they will receive their Portuguese Language Proficiency Certification (PLA) issued by the awarding body.

The certification process typically takes approximately 3 to 4 weeks. However, please note that this timeframe may vary slightly due to national holidays or potential closures of the certifying entities.

These PLA certifications are officially recognized and can be used as part of your Portuguese Citizenship application.
